Dianne Goldman of animal savers, has lost her funding for food, and is finding it very difficult to feed all the animals she houses untill they can be adopted. I am trying to help her with fundraising by making things for her to sell to raise money. We're making crafts and doggie treats and a whole slew of stuff in hopes of being able to earn some funds for her animals.

Dianne does a lot for the animal community, On top of housing these animals, she takes them to the vet and pays for any vet needs an animal in her charge needs, and regularly traps feral and wild kitties, to take them to get spayed, so that no wild kitties may further burden the animal population with unwanted kitties.

On top of this care, she also suffered through an electrical house fire a few years ago, that made her house un inhabitable for a long time from all the damage, and she STILL continued to care for and take on the needs of the multiple needy animals. One dog, a pit bull named louie louie, has been with her well over 3 years, since homes for pitbulls are few and far between.

On behalf of Dianne, and the animals, and myself, thank you for any and all help you may decide to give.

Sincerely Chris Moss, a devout animal owner herself.

 Formal Greetings

Even if the dad in your house isn't a shirt-and-tie kind of guy, he's sure to love this stylish Father's Day card.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Decorative scrapbook paper
Glue
Scissors

Time needed: 30 Minutes or Less
formal greeting 1. To make one, first cut a 4- by 12-inch rectangle from a piece of decorative scrapbook paper and fold it in half to create a double-layer 4- by 6-inch rectangle.

2. Form the collar by cutting 2 matching 1-inch-long horizontal slits about 1 inch below the fold.

3. Fold over the 2 flaps as shown, then glue them down with a 5-inch-long tie shape cut from another piece of decorative paper glued between them. Glue a pair of small buttons to the collar.

4. Once the glue has dried, lift the bottom front of the card and write a Father's Day greeting inside.
>

these elegant (but so simple) beaded bookmarks make great props for Get Caught Reading Month (May).
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Beads
Hemp thread (or heavy jewelry cord)

Time needed: 30 Minutes or Less
step1 1. To make one, first tie a bead onto one end of each of three 2-foot lengths of hemp thread or heavy jewelry cord. Add a few more beads to each strand, then knot the strands together 1 to 2 inches below the last beads. Braid or knot the threads as you like, then knot them all together again about 5 inches from the ends. Add more beads to each individual strand, then tie on an end bead, like the first, to keep them in place.

Magnetic Shadow Box

Here's a practical way to show off small collectibles such as plastic critters, beads, or shells.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Several 3-inch round storage tins with tight-fitting lids (found at Michael's in the scrapbooking section)
Gorilla Glue
3/4-inch round magnet
Pizza pan
Two 1 1/2-inch screws
Two 1/2-inch washers
Power drill

Time needed: About 1 to 2 Hours
1. Use the Gorilla Glue to attach the round magnet to the bottom of each container. Let it dry.

2. Hang the pizza pan on a wall at a height your child can reach. We suggest drilling into a wall stud. If your pizza pan has only one hole to slip a screw through, simply drill another (drill front to back).

3. Finally, have your child fill the tins and arrange them on the pizza pan frame.

Tip: If your pizza pan has only one hole to slip a screw through, simply drill another (drill front to back). Finally, have your child fill the tins and arrange them on the pizza pan frame.

Plant Stakes

These fuzzy bugs are so cute, they'll be a welcome (and amusing) sight hanging out in anyone's houseplants.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Black pipe cleaner, cut in half
Black pompon
Large red pompon
Red pipe cleaner, cut in thirds
Multicolored spiraled pipe cleaner
Craft glue
Googly eyes
Mini red pompon
Thin craft foam ( in red and black)
Red and white spiraled pipe cleaner
ΒΌ-inch wooden dowel, 1 foot long

Time needed: Under 1 Hour
Plant Stakes 1. Create the ladybug's head and body by wrapping one half of the black pipe cleaner around the black and large red pompons. Twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together under the bug's body (see A).

Plant Stakes 2. Slip the three pieces of red pipe cleaner between the black pipe cleaner and pompons on the underside of the bug. Bend to form legs (B).

Plant Stakes 3. For the antennae, slip the multicolored pipe cleaner under the black pipe cleaner on the topside of the bug, just behind the black pom-pom (C). Twist and shape it, trim the ends if necessary.

4. Glue on googly eyes and a red mini pompon nose. Cut a red mouth and black spots out of foam and glue them onto the bug.

5. To attach the bug to the dowel stake, tightly wrap the red and white pipe cleaner around the top of the dowel and hook the end to the underside of the bug.

Variations:
Kids can adjust the directions slightly to fashion a bumblebee or greenfly, or better yet, create completely new multilegged critters of their own.

Inchworm Bookmark
Mark your page with a bookworm that's at home between the pages.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Ribbed ribbon
Scissors
Ruler
Pipe cleaner
Beads
Glue
Googly eyes
Pom-pom

Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Start with a 1-foot length of ribbed ribbon. Cut two small holes in the ribbon 2 inches from one end and 1/4 inch from the sides.

2. Weave a short pipe cleaner through the holes and bend it to shape antennae.

3. Fit small beads on the ends. Fold the end of the ribbon forward and glue it down to form a face.

4. Glue on googly eyes and a colorful pom-pom nose.

MINI TRAVEL KIT
With this clever collection in hand, Dad can always travel first class. A sturdy, expandable plastic envelope, available at office supply stores, is small enough to stash in a glove compartment and neatly holds on-the-road essentials such as gum, sticky notes, a pen, lip balm, and, of course, a family photo.

Homemade Finger Paints

CRAFT MATERIALS:
1 cup of cold water
1/4 cup of cornstarch
1 tablespoon of light corn syrup
Washable, nontoxic tempera paint
Bowls
Finger-paint paper or freezer paper
Masking tape

Time needed: About 1 Hour

Finger Painting 1. Before you begin: Spread out a plastic tablecloth, keep wipes handy, and wear a smock or old clothes.

2. In a small saucepan, stir together the cold water and cornstarch. Whisk the mixture over low heat for about 5 minutes until it thickens and clears -- this will happen all at once. Whisk in 1 tablespoon of light corn syrup, then divide the mixture into bowls and stir a squirt of tempera paint into each one.

3. After the paint has cooled, scoop blobs of it onto finger-paint paper (taped to your table) or let your kids scoop it out themselves -- whichever they prefer -- and commence smearing. Leftover paint can be stored in sealed containers in the fridge for a day or two.

Tips:
Getting Started with Creative Projects for Little Hands
1. Keep it safe. Make sure supplies are labeled nontoxic and are not choking hazards. Discourage kids from putting supplies in their mouths.
2. Set it up. Designate an art area in your home with an easel or a low table where young artists can stand to work (this is usually easier for them).
3. Don't rush. Make sure you allow plenty of time for setup, exploration, and cleanup.
4. Don't stress over mess. Set things up so cleanup is easier for you, then try to relax and let your child have fun.
5. Write it down. Before you forget, write the date on your child's creation and, if she's talking, what she said about it.

Tiny Treats - Lollipop

CRAFT MATERIALS:
Various colors of polymer clay

Time needed: Afternoon or Evening

Step 1 - Tiny Treats - Lollipop 1. Roll out 2 snakes of clay in contrasting colors and twist them together.

Step 2 - Tiny Treats - Lollipop 2. Roll the twist into a spiraled disk.

3. Insert a toothpick into the disk, trim off the point, then bake the lollipop according to the directions on the clay package. We displayed our lollipops by sticking them into a small piece of foam core.

Dear Friends, Leather Family and Edges Members, -

Over the last two decades many public play spaces have flourished and died in the bay area. Edges was built with love in the tradition of the best of these. Now we face a crossroads. The building we occupy is for sale. Ali and Alex are not able to secure a loan to buy it themselves, and unless someone steps up to purchase it from within the community it will be sold to outsiders. IT IS possible the new owners would let us stay, but at this time we have no commitment. As a community, we not only want, but need the support of each one of you to see this through. The more we can all work together, the more likely this is to remain!

Please share the facts as you hear FROM EDGES directly with others! We want to be sure everyone understands the need we have for support and help, while still keeping the facts straight!

If you know of anyone in a position and with the inclination to buy the building and continue to rent it to Edges, please have them call Alex immediately. In the interim here is the current plan:
In order to continue providing a space to the community, (at this physical location or another) Edges needs financial support from our greater community. Ali has maintained Edges with NO debt for the past two years, yet neither Ali nor Alex take funds from their endeavors with Edges, but rather put all excess back into the space itself. We need the community to take on this same go-give mentality.

The plan is to schedule a series of fund raisers and a long-term membership drive. With the up-sale of increased memberships to the red, blue and black membership levels, folks will be contributing for their community and themselves. Your contributions will ensure that your own membership lasts!

If the space is lost, these funds will allow Ali and Alex to secure a new space and move Edges to a new home. If the new landlord allows Edges to continue here, the funds will upgrade the space with showers, a full kitchen and the like.

Unfortunately Ali is in school full time, just started a new job and is about to begin her internship for her laboratory career; she simply does not have the time to manage this extra workload! Therefore, we are looking for volunteers to manage fundraising events in the next few weeks. We need a General Manager of Fundraising, and people to organize specific events, organize the membership drive, advertise and spread the word, and more!

Please call Alex directly with any ideas or your willingness to take on some of what needs to be done.

Thank you in advance for helping us save this wonderful asset to the community! Know that it is our intent to do everything possible to secure our current location, or ensure we have a new home for all of us!

Alex and Ali
